The Nonprofit Secret The Six Principles of Successful Board/CEO Partnerships eBook Jonathan D Schick Reviews
Great book!
This is a book on nonprofit management that really gets to the heart of the issues that so many of us deal with how to create and maintain that all-important relationship with your board. Schick seems to eschew a lot of the rhetoric out there for a more practical and sensible way.
And the most refreshing part of the book is that I didn't really feel that I was reading a book on management-it felt more like a collection of short stories.
Written in plain English and in a light style, this may not please people used to a research-heavy work, but it probably would appeal to busy board members and harried ED's.
The Nonprofit Secret should be an essential reading requirement for anyone who may consider launching a new nonprofit organization, or anyone new to the nonprofit world. Starting from the beginning with a clear understanding of the Six Principles presented by Jonathan Schick could prevent so many of the headaches, and sometimes heartaches, that come with Board/CEO relationships. This book is thorough, practical and most of all "do-able"!
For those who find themselves bogged down with governance issues, Jonathan offers great examples and tools to turn the rudder and get on the right track! The Nonprofit Secret is an invaluable tool for developing sound board member relationships and strengthening executive leadership.
The Nonprofit Secret is an excellent resource for any member of a board or even a president of a large company. It teaches in a logical and organized way how to establish an efficient and successful board. This book is so easy to read and to follow but its best feature is the ease of implementation giving the reader step by step guidelines on how to transform the board into a successful body that has a mission, vision and implementation plan. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how best to run their organization. Thank you Jonathan Schick for this great resource

I can't fully describe how much this information has helped ..... and how great this book is. Yes, our board is described in the book - from the color of the invitations, etc.
I was so very encouraged by the refreshing style of the book (and the presentation that I heard as well). Mr. Schick really has the problems with board governance pegged. But he also gives some very reasonable and doable solutions to deal with them.
Highly recommend this book to anybody that sits on a Board. Take info with a grain of sale, as all Boards operate a little different.
I recently purchased "Nonprofit Secret"; the book is a well-kept secret that would benefit practically every nonprofit. It's a quick, easy to read book without alot of jargon. So common sense, which unfortunately isn't all that common! It's an absolute must for anyone who's even a bit involved with nonprofit governance.
